The large chewing surfaces of back teeth can often develop cavities. This is because of the intricate fissures and grooves on these teeth that are tricky to keep thoroughly clean. Fissure sealants are a cost-effective and non-invasive way to protect back teeth but they can only be used on teeth that do not have any fillings or decay. We usually recommend this treatment for children’s adult back teeth, soon after they emerge but there is no reason why adults with healthy back teeth cannot benefit from fissure sealants.
